I’m abit crazy, mad, insane, mental & looney- altogether I’m super Ding Dong! I’m scary, stubborn & very straightforward; & loving it! Loves animals to death, especially cats (My darlings: Topsy, Turvy & Tizzy). I hate people who abuse animals / abandon their pets. I especially hate hypocrites, backstabbers & snobbish people. Don’t like to discriminate / look down on people just because they are different- unless you prove otherwise! I’m short. Don’t even try asking (how tall?). I’m addicted to taking pictures of myself & everyone else, including my pets. You can say I’m narcissistic, but I’m really not into myself. I’m often misunderstood upon first impressions but it always changes for the better after people get to know me. I’m not an attention-seeking “media whore”. pine and bamboo (peking duck)

It rained the entire day today. Sooo irritating!!! I was soaked from head to toe while walking to work. Gosh! My toes were practically swimming in my shoes. Love the rain in Singapore, absolutely hate the rain in Brisbane. It’s just that, in Singapore, it seems more calm and cool when it rains, while in Brisbane, everything just seems dirty, messy, and wet. Blame it on the lack of shelters, and the vast patches of grass, mud and nature. (A little bit of addendum here... Sorry.)

Anyway, had Peking Duck with some of my colleagues for dinner today. Gosh, it was heavenly. I mean, the food was good enough. However, I must say that that was the only saving grace for the Pine and Bamboo restaurant; located at 968 Wynnum Road, Cannon Hill. (Tel: 0733999095). The restaurant’s specialty is mainly Peking Cuisine.

The Name Card... For your information; if you are interested.

First off, the place was extremely understaffed. Secondly, the wait staffs were not very polite or friendly. This, I was thinking, whether it was due to them being overly busy or something. However, that is still not an excuse.

Thirdly, the portions of the food were tiny tiny tiny... It was almost as if the portions were made for my cats.

Which comes to point number 4, what the hell happened to my duck??? I mean, we were only served the crispy skin; which was extremely delicious, I must say. However, other than that, I didn’t get to see (or rather should I say, taste) the rest of the duck. I was told that we should have been served the duck meat as well. But no! No news of the duck meat anywhere near our palates. Initially, we thought that the duck meat would be incorporated into our second course of the meal; which is a choice of either lettuce wraps or duck noodles. Thus, we assumed that the duck would be used for that. Duh!~ But no, none! This made us hopping mad!

Carving The Skin Out... The waiter carving out the crispy Peking duck skin for us to wrap in our pancake skins and sweet plum sauce. You can see the huge duck, whose meat was all wasted. Dammit!!!
My Crispy Peking Duck Skin... Yumsss!!! By the way, all the pictures are a little too dark and not very sharp because they were taken with my mobile phone; under very bad lighting.
The Whole Spread... See what I mean when I say MISER!!!??? Grrr...

Anyway, hungry us (yes, not filling at all) ordered additional rice and a Peking Chicken dish. Fabulous dish once again. But yea, the rice costs AUD$2.50 per bowl. What is this restaurant’s downfall? Blame it on them being “too much of a miser”!

Would I go back??? MAYBE…
Before I go back to this restaurant, I would have to be very certain that there would be no other options that serve better food which is more value for money. Either that, or when I start to crave for their Peking Duck again, that is.

If you are thinking of trying out their food, please do make reservations for a table. They can be quite packed despite all their shortcomings. Well, did I mention they’ve got like tons of press clippings about their Peking Duck dish displayed on their front doors? Well oh well…

P / S: As we were paying our bill at the counter, one of the wait staff happened to just enter the dining area from the kitchen. We then saw our Peking duck, along with the others’, sitting in a pile- in a bowl on the floor (or was that a pallet). I was sooo disappointed. Either the restaurant was gonna throw them away (What a waste! The duck died in vain!!!), or they weren’t practicing good food business hygiene (for my own personal standards, that is). Eeks! That freaks me out! I reckon the ducks’ bodies were too close to the floor, even though they were in a bowl (stacked up real high). I can’t imagine what they were going to do with all that excess duck meat which they’ve “cheated” off all their patrons.

P / P / S: It was raining too heavily, thus, no pictures of the restaurant front. But, you can’t miss it. The huge ass sign spans across the length (on top) of the whole restaurant, with simple bright red wordings on white background. Anyway, who can miss the strangely combined name of Pine and Bamboo??? I wonder what the name meant. Pine for the west, and bamboo for the east? Lol…

~anonymous: we did. the waiter said it will be incorporated into the second dish. however, the thing is, there wasn't enough duck meat in the noodles to warrant the whole duck.

heck, we were so Asian, we even asked them if we had to pay for the wet towels. my Aussie colleague with us that day was just asking us why the question about the wet towels, which we had to explain to her that in Asia, restaurants charge for the wet towels and peanut appetizers, thus, our query.
